History of Geraldine's Community Hub
For years, Geraldine was without a local watering hole. Locals would make the trip to nearby pubs like the Wolesley Hotel in Winchester, fondly referred to as “The Winch” to share a pint and a yarn.
In 1950, the GLT (Geraldine Licensing Trust) purchased the Crown Hotel, which quickly became a focal point for the community. Over the decades, as the needs of Geraldine evolved, so too did the Trust's vision. In 2005, the GLT sold the Crown Hotel and set its sights on creating a modern, family-friendly hub that Geraldine could call its own. Enter The Village Inn, which officially opened its doors in 2004.
Designed as a space where everyone is welcome, the Village Inn brought Geraldine’s community together. Families gathered for hearty meals, friends caught up over drinks, and travellers found a warm and friendly spot to rest and recharge. Alongside it, the GLT’s earlier investment in the Super Liquor store built in 1972 on the site of the former Police Station, ensured locals always had a trusted place to stock up for celebrations and gatherings.
Together, The Village Inn and Super Liquor stand as proud symbols of Geraldine’s community.
